Job Description:
- Assesses students’ functional capabilities and home and/or classroom environment to determine student’s functional level and develop recommendations and/or placement.
- Communicates with students and/or parents with teachers and/or other personnel to evaluate situations, solve problems and/or resolve conflicts.
- Consults with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals to provide requested information, develop plans for services and/or make recommendations.
- Counsels students, parents and guardians to enhance student success in school.
- Coordinates with community agencies including medical, judicial, social service and mental health services to determine appropriate treatments to meet the needs of specific students.
- Facilitates meetings and processes to ensure curriculum guidelines are met and/or state mandates are achieved.
- Implements school wide program development and program evaluation (e.g., crisis intervention services) to ensure effective programs to assist children who experience physical, mental, social or emotional difficulties.
- Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students to assist students in modifying such behavior and develop successful interpersonal skills.
- Manages assigned special grants and/or projects (e.g., budget, reports, goals) to ensure that specifications are achieved.
- Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g., quantity reports, student activities, correspondence, internal audits) to document activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
- Presents information (e.g., budget overviews, accounting processes, distribution formulas) to communicate information, gaining feedback and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.
- Researches resources and methods (e.g., intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students’ functional goals.
- Supervises interns, practicum students and others to monitor performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of school’s curriculum.
- Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
