Position: Routing Coordinator 

 

Area: Transportation 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum Associate Degree, Preferred Bachelor Degree or other related experience 
  • Possess a valid SC Commercial Driver’s License with P and S endorsements, to include air brakes (preferred). 
  • Experience in school district transportation (preferred). 
  • Have a working knowledge and understanding of basic school bus scheduling. 
  • General geographical knowledge of the York School District. 
  • Knowledge of Windows-based software required, knowledge of GIS/routing software preferred. 

Reports To: Director of Transportation 

 

Job Goal:Organizes, coordinates, and maintains an effective and efficient routing schedule through the implementation of computer routing software to ensure that the District’s transportation system operates in a safe and efficient manner. Develops, coordinates, and implements professional development for drivers, monitors, and school-based administrators particularly in the areas of student behavior, safety, and discipline. 

 

Performance Responsibilities: 

  • Plans and develops bus schedules; plans safe, economic, efficient routes, stops, and other factors suited to school starting/ending times, road conditions, etc.; recommends and implements revision of runs and schedules. Operates a computer terminal for input, update, and retrieval of bus route information. 
  • Make a systematic evaluation of established schedules to ensure adherence to regulations and policy. 
  • Prepare and distribute bus routes (including stops, stop times at each stop) for all buses. 
  • Adjust routes and busloads as needed. 
  • Maintain up-to-date route files on all buses. 
  • Work with the Transportation Director to investigate complaints from parents, the public, and others regarding the placement of school bus routes, stops, and the failure to maintain uniform and punctual schedules. 
  • Work with Special Education staff to locate and place special education students needing transportation. 
  • Have a basic understanding of the various special needs of special needs students needing transportation services. 
  • Exercise maximum regard as to the safety, welfare, emotional, and education needs, and limitations of special needs students in the design of bus routes. 
  • Keeps schools and parents informed of changes in schedules. 
  • Ensures adherence to Transportation and Board Policy and SC School Bus Regulations. 
  • Responsible for the day to day financial operations of the department. 
  • Other duties as deemed appropriate to support transportation operation
