SCHOOL BUS DRIVER

 

 

Qualifications:

 

· High school diploma or equivalent

· Valid CDL with minimum B Class Plus P&S Endorsements

· Good verbal and written communications skills

· Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable

 

Reports To: Transportation Director

 

Job Goal

 

To transport students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions; ensuring vehicle operation is in safe operating condition; and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from buses.

 

Performance Responsibilities

 

· Advises students and other passengers of appropriate behavior to reinforce regulations and maintaining passenger safety.

· Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving and/or recommending a resolution to the situation.

· Assists students and other passengers to provide safe loading and unloading form buses including both emergency situations and normal transport.

· Attends meetings, classroom and behind the wheel training, safety meeting to maintain skills and meeting the criteria requirements of a school bus driver.

· Cleans assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior to ensure safety, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle.

· Conducts emergency evacuation drills to ensure efficiency of procedures and complying with mandated requirements.

· Drives assigned vehicle to specified location on specified days to maintain vehicle in a safe operating condition.

· Drives school bus to transport passengers over scheduled routes to and from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner.

· Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g., tire pressure, exterior condition, mirrors) to ensure the safe operating condition of the vehicle and complying with mandated guidelines.

· Prepares documents and reports (e.g., trip reports, incident reports, inspections records, passenger misconduct, mileage logs, student counts, routing information) to provide written support and/or conveying information.

· Reports observations and/or incidents (e.g., discipline, inappropriate social behavior) to communicate information to appropriate personnel.

· Responds to inquiries (e.g., students, parents, other school personnel) to provide information and/or direction.

· Supervises students and other passengers during transit to maintain safety and following district policy.

· Assists other personnel to support them in the completion of their work activities.

Terms of Employment:

 

182 days per school year; salary and work year to be established by the Board

 

Evaluation:

 

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Service Personnel.
