SUBSTITUTE SCHOOL NURSE
Qualifications:
- Valid SC Licensure as RN required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with pupils, parents, teachers, staff, and general public
- Experience in school nursing, public health nursing, or pediatric nursing preferred
- Satisfactory SLED (SC Law Enforcement Division) report
Reports To: Director of Special Services
Job Goal
To oversee the individual health needs of students in compliance with current law and regulations in order to serve all students with appropriate care as prescribed by the student’s physician.
Performance Responsibilities
- To oversee the individual health needs of students
- Ensure district health care practices comply with the laws relating to student health issues
- Provide appropriate immediate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students
- Serve as a health care resource to teachers, staff, and administrators
- Report students with contagious diseases to local public health authorities to minimize infection and in compliance with the law.
- Maintain contact with parent/guardian to alert them to any changes in student health and/or refer students for further medical/emotional intervention as needed.
